01 Why this exists
Malaysia has a company registry. It does not have a company register.
Every company here is filed with SSM. That filing proves a company exists — it does not tell a buyer what it makes, how big a job it can take, or whether anyone still answers the phone.
So buyers fall back on whoever bought the top advert. Directories sell placement, rank by payment, and pad their numbers with entries scraped off dead websites. A company that has traded on the same street for forty years ends up below a shell registered last Tuesday.
We started CompaniesList to put that the other way round. Every entry is checked against the SSM record before it is published. Nothing on this site can be bought to the top. The register is free to join and free to search, because a directory that charges the listed company for visibility is not a record — it is an advertising board.
What we sell, eventually, is the spotlight: a paid feature slot, clearly labelled as one. What we will not sell is the order of the results.
02 Verification
What we check before a listing goes live

The company exists
Name and registration number matched against the SSM record, and the status read as active.

Someone is there
A working phone or WhatsApp number and a street address that is not a mailbox service.

The description is true
Stated trade, capacity and sector must be consistent with the filing and with what the company shows us.
Roughly one application in nine fails at least one of these and is sent back with the reason.
